Platelet Rich Plasma: The Key to Hair Growth
The use of platelet rich plasma (PRP) has been used for years in the medical community, treating everything from muscle injuries to torn tendons to arthritis.
In much the same way, we can use platelet rich plasma injections (PRP injections) to stimulate hair health, engaging the body’s natural healing system in a fight against a number of conditions including male pattern baldness, androgenic alopecia, and others.
How do PRP treatments help stimulate the growth of hair follicles?
Platelet rich plasma therapy is a common cosmetic procedure, using the body’s own blood to heal itself. Both white blood cells and red blood cells, along with concentrated platelets and growth factors stimulate tissue regeneration and renewal.
What happens at an appointment?
After examining and photographing the area to be treated as a baseline, we will draw blood, separate the plasma-rich platelets and concentrate them into a serum, and then apply an anesthetic cream to the scalp.
The treatment has two parts: a microneedling portion and injection portion. The latter is performed using a very fine needle, and ensures the serum stimulates the deepest follicles.
How long is an appointment?
With all of the processing time, you should be out in less than 45 minutes. The actual treatment session will last anywhere from 20 to 30 minutes.
How long until I see results?
Good news! In less than a month you should start to see improvements! Even better, the results of our treatment sessions will show improvements in hair density, hair quality and hair volume over time.
FAQ Section
What is PRP treatment good for?
PRP treatments are used in hair growth in the same way they are when helping to heal injuries: by stimulating tissue repair, renewal and regeneration. These techniques can be used as hair loss treatments, for treating male pattern baldness, and for androgenetic alopecia.
How long will PRP injections last?
Typically the blood platelets in the PRP injection will show significant improvement in hair restoration and hair loss for approximately 18 months to two years, but is often “topped up” once every year or so.
Is PRP painful?
The treatment is not very painful, and is performed under very safe conditions by experts. Patients will typically experience some heat redness two days after the treatment, a symptom which will dissipate relatively quickly.
