A once trending surgery, labiaplasties have become one of the most common surgeries at Clinique Evolution. As seen on Injections & Bistouris saison 2, Dr. Genevieve F-Caron performs labiaplasties to reduce the excess tissue on the female genitalia, for cosmetic reasons but also to improve comfort with common tight clothing wear, such as leggings, but also during exercise, other types of activities including sexual activity.

A labiaplasty is a plastic surgery technique specifically designed to reshape the female genitalia. But how is a labiaplasty performed? Here, we delve into the specifics of the labiaplasty procedure, post-surgery care, and how Clinique Evolution helps those wanting to get a labiaplasty feel good in their bodies.

Understanding Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure focused on labia minora reduction, which are the inner labia (flaps of skin) on either side of the vaginal opening. The procedure addresses concerns related to enlarged labia minora, which might cause discomfort or psychological distress, through precise reshaping.

Benefits of Labiaplasty Surgery

The primary benefits of surgical labiaplasty include the alleviation of discomfort during activities such as sexual intercourse and exercise, and the improvement of self esteem and comfort in one’s own body by addressing any aesthetic concerns that may exist. Think of how when wearing tight clothing like swimwear, tights, lingerie and activewear, a surplus of skin can cause physical discomfort or create an unsightly bulge. There are many reasons why most patients are choosing to improve their lifestyle with this rather straightforward procedure.

The Labiaplasty Procedure

Getting a labiaplasty is a journey towards personal well-being. Here a description of what the procedure entails:

Pre-Surgery Consultation

Before a labiaplasty, patients receive a personalized labiaplasty consultation with Dr. F-Caron at our plastic surgery clinic.

Every woman possesses a distinct bodily composition. During your consultation, the conversation will extend beyond your hopes and expectations, offering a genuine assessment of your requests, thoughtfully aligned with your anatomical distinctiveness. You can expect a direct and honest explanation from the doctor regarding the most effective solution and approach for you during your consultation.

Surgical Techniques For Labia Minora Reduction

Various labiaplasty procedures exist, the most common being the trim and wedge techniques. The trim labiaplasty technique involves removing excess labial tissue along the edges of the labia minora to make them symmetrical. On the other hand, the wedge labiaplasty technique removes a pie-shaped piece of unwanted tissue from each side of the labia minora in order to reduce its size and any hyperpigmentation.

The following is a video demonstration of a labiaplasty by sketch. The blue lines in the drawing represent where Dr. Genevieve F-Caron will remove the surplus vaginal lip tissue during the procedure. This sketch was professionally realised based on an actual patient’s labiaplasty performed at clinic evolution.

Procedure Details

Labiaplasty surgery typically lasts under an hour and is performed under local anesthesia at the clinic. As mentioned above, the procedure involves careful labial reduction and reshaping to achieve the desired aesthetic and functional outcome. Note that if other related procedures, such as a labia majora reduction, are also being performed, the surgery may take longer. This is considered an outpatient procedure.

Labiaplasty Recovery and Aftercare

The recovery timeline can vary, but most patients generally return to normal activities within a week. Full labiaplasty recovery can take up to six months.

Aftercare Instructions

Postoperative care following labia reduction surgery is key to a smooth recovery and optimal results. This typically includes managing discomfort, maintaining strict hygiene, and adhering to specific guidelines provided by your surgeon. Some general aftercare tips include:

  • Pain Management: Use of prescribed or over-the-counter pain relief medication as directed for effective pain control.
  • Hygiene: Gently cleansing the area and ensuring it remains dry and clean to prevent infection.
  • Rest and Limit Physical Activity: Avoid strenuous activities and allow the body time to heal during the recovery process.
  • Wear Loose Clothing: Opt for loose, comfortable clothing to minimize irritation and pressure on the pubic area.
  • Cold Compress: Apply cold compresses to reduce swelling.

Remember, these tips are generalized. Your surgeon will provide specific instructions tailored to your individual needs and circumstances, ensuring the best possible recovery.
